Erica Ji Yuen
 

Erica Ji Yuen is an engineer and designer focusing on machine learning and human computer interaction. Growing up in Greater Boston in an working class Chinese immigrant family, Erica adopted a DIY attitude fueled by optimism and curiosity.

Erica received her B.Sc. & M.Eng in Computer Science from MIT. During her time there, she focused her work on exploring how we can use machine learning to enable creativity, and how we can use computation to create natural to use and effective user interfaces. Over the course of her technical career, she became most excited about creating imaginative and joyful experiences using whatever means necessary.

With this goal in mind, she integrates creativity, visual delight, and empathy as the main pillars that support her computational work. She builds bridges that connect artists and engineers.

She previously has contributed to projects at Microsoft, Samsung, MIT Media Lab, and Intuit. Outside of her technical work, she is also a professional makeup artist & fashion photographer. Past clients include local fashion designers and Jasz Couture.

Erica’s knowledge areas include: machine learning, image processing, computer vision, human computer interaction, human perception, mental health, user understanding, rapid prototyping, visual design, K-12 education, product design, photography, cosmetics, beauty industry, and fabrication.
